Lamborghini Living
Perched above the Sausalito waterfront, the Lamborghini Living residence reimagines an outdated, heavy structure into a refined, open home that connects directly with its extraordinary views of San Francisco Bay. The original house was enclosed and dark, with bulky walls that obscured light and diminished the experience of its setting. Scott Couture, principal architect of Studio Couture, approached the project with two starting points: the clients themselves and the site.
The owners sought a home that felt calm and minimal yet carried the same energy and excitement they associate with their passion for Lamborghinis. The design opened the plan, streamlined the kitchen, and introduced clean geometries that soften light while framing the skyline. The result is a layered home, serene at first impression, yet increasingly sophisticated as one notices the subtleties of angles, forms, and detailing.

Highlights Of The Project
At the center of the home stands its most striking feature: a sculptural island inspired by the lines of classic and contemporary Lamborghini automobiles. Working closely with Wyatt Studios, Scott gathered imagery spanning decades of Lamborghini design and distilled their expressive forms into a single, functional centerpiece.
The island is not simply a kitchen element—it operates on three levels. It is practical and fully equipped, it anchors the living space as a social hub, and it exists as a piece of art in its own right. With concealed appliances and minimal surfaces, the kitchen disappears into the background, allowing the island’s sculptural presence to command the room.

Meeting the Clients and Seeing the Opportunity
When I meet new clients, I always look to see what they are driving. In the garage here, I saw a Porsche and a Lamborghini. I liked these two clients from the first moment, and they only got better as we worked together. The house itself was well built, but the interiors were a mess.
Exposed wood beams, tile countertops, every appliance imaginable, fake beams, trim piled everywhere, and almost no access to some of the best views in the Bay Area. The living room had a very high ceiling and a large footprint, yet it felt cramped and cluttered, much like the boats docked in Sausalito’s harbor.

Reimagining the Home From the Inside Out
The goal was straightforward. Modernize and clean up the interior, rebalance the natural light, and finally open the house to the San Francisco city and bay views. We wanted the architecture to feel as intentional and crisp as the cars that inspired the owners every day.

Reinventing the Space Without Touching the Structure
The building was strong and well constructed, so the challenge became figuring out how far we could go while keeping the structure intact. Could we reinvent the entire experience within the existing envelope. Could we take a space that felt like a 1970s yacht and turn it into something as clean and exciting as the owners’ 2015 Lamborghini Huracán. That idea became the foundation of Lamborghini Living.

The Moves That Shaped the Transformation
Two changes guided the project. The solarium covered deck came down, and we introduced a roofline that reaches out and up to gather both views and light. In hillside homes overlooking the Bay, a surprising amount of light comes from reflection off the water. By tilting the roofline, we were able to pull that light deep into the main space. We then pulled the deck itself into the interior and lined it with sliding glass, creating an indoor deck that now holds a long dining table.
The second move was the kitchen. We opened it completely to the living room and the views. Every appliance hides away so the kitchen becomes part of the living space. The island became the centerpiece. It is a functional sculpture inspired by the owners’ Lamborghinis. Working with Wyatt Studios, we taped full size images of Lamborghinis on the shop wall and shaped the island from steel sheets using those lines as our reference.

A Home That Reveals More the Longer You Live In It
The shift from busy and cluttered to calm and quiet is dramatic. At first the room feels simple and composed. Then you begin to notice how the ceilings and walls are shaped, how the light washes across them, and how the sculptural forms start to appear the longer you look. The space stays calm when you need it, and it becomes exciting when you choose to see the details. It rewards attention, and it stays fresh over time.

Living With the Result
The house now opens fully to its views and natural light. The interiors are modern, quiet, and composed. We kept the original structure, but everything about the experience of the home is new. The owners now live in an environment that reflects their lifestyle and the things they love.
Testimonial
Client’s perspective
“It took several years of planning prior to starting our home remodel. Scott Couture was very patient along the way. His knowledge of the materials and products needed to achieve our ultra modern vision was excellent. The contractor, Tim Vinson of Building Alchemy, was very patient also and his understanding of the vision was in line with ours. The quality of work was impeccable and on the mark. His access to local bespoke custom fabricators was invaluable. We lived in the house during the remodel and all members of the highly trained team were respectful of our privacy. We would highly recommend Studio Couture for any modern remodel or design.”
